Why did you originally decide to create artworks?

Mr. Li was born in mainland China before he came to Hong Kong in 1979. He had an appreciation for the arts from a very young age. Painting became a hobby for him and as his passions and interests in the medium grew he decided to become an artist professionally. He studied at art school for two years before he began selling oil paintings and has since taught students throughout his career. He developed an interest in western artwork and after witnessing the strengths of western techniques and how well they would complement traditional Chinese techniques, he decided to learn what he could to push the medium forward by blending techniques from both the west and China and his current goals include perfecting the traditional Chinese painting through the implementation of western techniques. His wife is also an artist and became a supportive force and positive influence for him throughout his career.

What does art mean to you?

Art is a means of expression, and the creation of art allows Mr. Li to communicate his thoughts to others. Art also has an element of leisure and inspiration, allowing him to envision how to improve upon past works while enjoying the process of creating his work. It allows people to learn about the world and about history, which he takes pride in being a part of. Art also allows Mr. Li to interpret his own thoughts through his work and he sees the depth of value in art to express and communicate with others.
